The Miniature Railway repaint

The oil painting "The Miniature Railway" was originally painted early 2012 and was exhibited at the Chatham Historic dockyard in the Guild of Railway artists "Railart" exhibition. Although the painting was well received, I  was never entirely happy with the composition. I have repainted the picture adding a foreground figure (modeled by my daughter ) and reduced the height from 30" x 40" to 24"x 40". The painting shows a scene at Hythe station on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent.

Railart Exhibition

The spring Railart exhibition by the Guild of Railway Artists opens on March 31st and runs untill May 13th at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham.

I have submitted 2 oil paintings for the exhibition - "The Manor in Winter" and "The Miniature Railway". The exhibition will have over 100 railway paintings and it is hoped that David Shepard will open the exhibition.

Original oil painting framed

Oil on canvas of "The Manor in Winter" just picked up from the framers and is looking resplendent in its gold moulding with off white inner slip.

"The Miniature Railway" Painting

Latest Oil Painting scanned and Limited Edition of 850 Giclee prints are now available for sale.

The painting shows Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway no 8 Hurricane at Hythe station in the 1950`s. The RH&DR is a 15" gauge railway built in the 1920`s for racing drivers Captain JEP Howey and Count Louis Zborowsky (who was sadly killed in a racing accident before the railway was built) by well known engineer Henry Greenly. Their vision was to build a fully working express railway in 1/3 scale. The 13.5 mile railway opened in 1927 and is still running today on the Romney Marsh, Kent.

No 8 Hurricane was built by Davey Paxman & co of Colchester along with 6 sister locomotives and a further 2 Canadian outline engines.

Diversion from steam locomotives!

For a change from railway paintings, I have painted a Golden Retriever puppy portrait. Its nice painting something different after working on "The Miniature Railway" painting since Christmas. The puppy is called "Bailey" and he sat perfectly still for 6 hours while I painted him, NOT !  (I use several photos for the portrait). The painting has now gone to its new owner and she is very pleased with it. Im afraid my photo of the canvas is not too good though.

New painting just finished

Just finished a new oil painting on a 30" x 40" canvas titled "The Miniature Railway". The painting shows Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway no 8 Hurricane at Hythe station in the 1950`s. I have been working on the painting since Christmas and it took a lot of work designing the composition (which I hope I was successfull!). The canvas will now go to Kadinsky Art in Narberth for scanning and we will produce a series of limited edition Giclee prints and possibly open edition prints as well.

The Manor in Winter

My latest oil painting of 7822 Foxcote Manor is now finished and has been professionally scanned for the production of a series of high quality Giclee prints. The painting shows 7822 climbing through the snow covered hills of Mid Wales on the Talerddig bank with an Abersystwyth - Manchester train in the early 1950`s. I have tried to get a good depth to the painting with a good colour balance - I hope I have achieved this! I have used exhibition quality stretchers for the canvas which at present remains unframed. My other railway paintings are framed in a gold/copper moulding with ivory coloured inner slip.
