Red Dragon at Carmarthen" Oil on Canvas
When viewing Jon's railway paintings, if you can hear the rasp of the fireman's shovel digging into his coal pile ready to "throw another round" into the firebox with the resulting aromatic smell of Welsh coal instantly burning as it hits the white hot inferno accompanied by the gentle chirp of the injectors feeding cool water into the hot boiler or the pulsating thunder of the iron wheels on the rails with the roar of escaping steam from the safety valves as the locomotive thunders by, leaving the smell of hot steam oil in the air, then maybe Jon has succeeded in relaying to you the passion he feels for the steam locomotive which has often been described as the nearest man has come to creating a living machine.
